Remove a Known Password and Save the Copy
To unlock a PDF, choose the file and enter the password that opens it. The tool creates an unlocked copy in your browser.
- Select a PDF and enter its known password. Confirm you have permission to remove its protection.
- Press Unlock PDF. The tool checks that the new copy opens without a password and keeps the original page count and selectable text.
- Visit every page in the preview. Check account details and transaction figures, then confirm you checked the copy.
- Download the unlocked PDF. Reopen the saved file to confirm it opens without a password before converting or uploading it.
The original file stays unchanged. The output keeps its text and page graphics instead of turning the pages into images. A scanned statement stays scanned.
The result also tells you whether printing or copying restrictions were present and removed. Use the unlocked statement for bank statement to Excel conversion when you need editable transaction rows.
The tool accepts one PDF up to 50 MB and 60 pages. It supports standard RC4 and AES password encryption. Certificate-protected files and digitally signed PDFs need their original PDF application.
Why Bank Statements Arrive Locked
A password protects a bank statement's account details and transactions when the file is stored or sent to someone else. Opening protection and printing restrictions do different jobs.
An opening password is required before the statement can be viewed. A permissions password controls actions such as copying or printing after the document opens.
Use the password instructions supplied with that particular statement. A sender can specify a customer reference, a date format or a password chosen for the document. Preserve leading zeroes and the stated letter case.
Australian banks also supply statements through authenticated online banking. For example, NAB lets customers download statement PDFs through its app or Internet Banking. An online banking password and a document password are separate credentials.
This PDF password remover uses only the password for the file you select. It never asks for your bank login.
Remove a Password From a PDF in Chrome or Acrobat
Chrome can create a new PDF through printing when the opened document allows printing. Acrobat can remove the document's password security when you have the required permissions.
In Chrome, open the PDF and enter its password. Open the print dialog, choose Save as PDF and save a new file. Reopen the result and inspect every page. Printing can change document features and is unsuitable for preserving a digital signature.
In Adobe Acrobat's password settings, open the PDF and choose All tools, then Protect a PDF. Open Set security properties and select Security, then Change Settings. Clear the opening-password requirement or document restrictions as permitted, confirm and save the copy.
A permissions password can be required to change Acrobat's restrictions. A browser's print option does not recover a forgotten opening password.
When Not to Unlock a PDF
Unlock a PDF only when you know its password and have the right to remove its protection. Ask the authorised sender for another copy if you cannot open it.
Keep signed originals intact. Saving altered bytes can invalidate a digital signature, so this tool refuses PDFs with signature dictionaries.
The unlocked copy contains the same private information with its password removed. Save it in your brokerage's controlled document storage and restrict access to people handling the application. The OAIC's personal information security guidance explains the protection required of organisations covered by the Privacy Act.
Clear the document from this page when finished. Downloaded copies remain on your device. Use password protect PDF before sending a copy that needs its own document password, or the PDF compressor when an upload needs a smaller file.
