The HSBC broker portal was built for pricing and managing loans, but HSBC Australia has stopped accepting new home-loan applications. For existing HSBC files, separate the lender's retail exit from the future servicing transfer: Pepper Money takes over only after the loan book sale completes.
HSBC remains the contact for existing loans until that transfer. Your immediate work is to identify affected clients and confirm how their servicing and your trail payments will be handled.
What the Portal Delivered
HSBC launched its Mortgage Portal in 2024 with automated pricing, one source of product information and views of active applications and settled loans. Its portal launch announcement described instant pricing decisions for both new and existing loans, with escalation available.
Brokers could see application status and loan details in the same platform. For settled loans, the portal showed products, interest rates, repayments and loan terms. That visibility made annual client reviews easier because brokers could review the account before requesting a pricing change.
Those features explain the portal's original role. They do not mean HSBC has reopened new home lending or that the same access arrangements will continue after the transfer.
What the Retail Exit Changes
HSBC's retail exit affects new enquiries, applications already lodged and settled loans differently.
- For new enquiries, HSBC's home-loan page says it is no longer accepting applications. Assess other lenders for the client's needs.
- For files lodged before the cutoff, monitor HSBC broker notices and confirm the position of each application with HSBC. Do not assume a lodged file has settled or will transfer with the settled portfolio.
- For settled loans, prepare clients for a change of servicer after completion. HSBC remains their main loan contact until the transfer, when Pepper Money becomes responsible for day-to-day servicing.
Pepper Money's HSBC customer update says existing interest rates, repayments, fees and eligible discounts carry over at transfer. Loans will not automatically move to Pepper Money's advertised rates. Clients must follow HSBC's own transfer instructions, including any instructions about repayments or offset accounts.
Trail and Servicing After the Sale
HSBC agreed in 2026 to sell its Australian home and personal loan portfolio, with a book value of about $36 billion. The buyer is Virgo BidCo Pty Ltd, owned by funds managed by Blackstone affiliates. Pepper Money will service the loans after completion.
HSBC's loan portfolio sale announcement expects completion in the first half of 2027, subject to regulatory and competition approvals and operational readiness.
HSBC's public sale announcement does not set out post-completion broker trail payment terms. A continuing broker relationship, which Pepper Money describes for customers, does not by itself establish who pays trail or on what terms.
Ask HSBC broker support or your aggregator for written confirmation that trail continues after completion. Confirm the paying entity and whether the loan references or lender name on the commission statement will change. Keep that answer with your commission records.
Use the last commission statement before transfer as a baseline. Match each HSBC loan against subsequent statements by loan reference, client and balance, allowing for any documented reference changes. If an active loan stops paying trail, send the aggregator the missing period and previous payment details for investigation.
The monthly trail tracking routine explains how to compare payments over time. If a client refinances or pays out a loan, check the agreement's commission clawback rules separately. Do not record the servicing transfer alone as a client discharge.
Lessons Worth Keeping
Broker portal access usually comes through your aggregator's accreditation and setup process. Groups such as LMG and AFG are examples of aggregator networks. Choice now operates within LMG.
A diverse lender panel gives you alternatives when a lender changes strategy. Match each recommendation to the client's needs, while keeping access to suitable alternatives for future reviews.
A change of servicer also needs its own communication. Explain who will manage the existing loan and when that changes, without presenting the transfer as a new loan application. The Pepper Money broker portal guide covers Pepper Money broker access. Follow the specific HSBC transfer notices for migrated-loan access arrangements.
Your Next Step
Search your customer relationship management system (CRM) for HSBC-serviced loans and make a list of affected clients. Separate settled loans from any files lodged before the application cutoff.
Send each settled-loan client a short explanation that HSBC remains their contact until transfer and Pepper Money will service the loan after completion. Tell clients to read HSBC's direct communications before changing payment arrangements.
Check the latest HSBC broker notice and the lender's transfer notices for existing customers. Record the confirmed servicing instructions and your aggregator's trail arrangements, then reconcile each affected loan when the next commission statement arrives.
