Connective Aggregator: Model and Mercury Nexus

Connective is an Australian mortgage aggregator that gives brokers access to lender relationships, Mercury Nexus and business support. Its aggregation memberships use Maximiser or Variable fee models. Essentials, Select and Advance are Connective-branded lending ranges.

For a brokerage assessing Connective, the choice includes how you pay for aggregation and whether you use your own credit licence. Mercury Nexus access is included in membership.

The Connective Aggregation Model

Connective connects mortgage brokers with panel lenders and administers their commissions. The broker works with the borrower, assesses the loan and submits the application through the lender relationship.

Connective’s service overview separates residential mortgage broking from asset finance and commercial broking. Residential aggregation concerns home loans. Asset-finance services concern lending for assets such as vehicles and equipment. A mortgage brokerage expanding into asset finance needs the relevant service arrangement and lender access.

Connective was founded by brokers in 2003. Its website reports more than 5,000 brokers and a panel of over 70 lenders.

The group’s legal entities have different roles. Connective Broker Services Pty Ltd identifies itself as credit representative 437202, authorised under Australian credit licence (ACL) 389328. Connective Credit Services Pty Ltd, trading as Connective Lending, identifies itself as the holder of that ACL. These details appear in Connective Broker Services’ disclosure and Connective Lending’s disclosure.

A broker can join under Connective’s credit licence or keep their own ACL. That choice changes the licensing arrangement and associated charges. It belongs in the membership decision alongside the brokerage’s compliance responsibilities.

Membership Options: Essentials, Select and Advance

Connective Essentials, Connective Select and Connective Advance are lending ranges, not aggregation membership plans. Connective’s membership plans are Maximiser and Variable. The distinction matters when comparing a brokerage’s fees with the products it can recommend to borrowers.

Connective’s white-label lending descriptions explain where each range fits:

  • Connective Essentials is backed by Advantedge. It is a home-loan range for borrowers seeking a straightforward loan with redraw and online account access.
  • Connective Select is a home-loan range with an offset account. Connective’s lending website identifies Bendigo Bank as its funder. Its published descriptions include construction and bridging options.
  • Connective Advance is backed by Thinktank. It covers commercial-property and self-managed superannuation fund (SMSF) lending, so it fits a brokerage handling those borrower needs.
  • Connective Solutions is backed by Pepper Money and covers near-prime and specialist borrower needs.

The lending range follows the client’s circumstances. The aggregation membership follows the brokerage’s commission volume and fee preference. A brokerage can compare its expected costs under Maximiser and Variable without treating Select or Essentials as competing membership tiers.

Lender Panel and Accreditation

Connective’s lender panel contains over 70 lenders. Panel access gives the brokerage a route to those lenders through Connective. Each lender’s accreditation and submission requirements still apply to the broker.

In a hypothetical file, a broker joins Connective and identifies a suitable home loan with a lender on the panel. The broker’s accreditation with that lender is still pending. The panel listing establishes the relationship, while active accreditation establishes the broker’s authority to submit through it. The broker completes accreditation before lodging that file.

Connective has onboarding and accreditations specialists to support that process. Accreditation also does not establish that a borrower qualifies for every product the lender has. The broker must assess the file against the lender’s criteria.

Mercury Nexus in the Brokerage

Mercury Nexus is Connective’s customer relationship management (CRM) and business platform. Connective says members receive access at no extra cost.

The platform combines client records with application lodgement and compliance workflows. It also has a client portal and business analytics. Brokers can customise workflows and branding. Connective describes integrations and an open application programming interface (API) for connecting other systems.

Included platform access is one part of membership. An external provider’s service, your team’s permissions and any separately contracted work depend on the applicable arrangement. When assessing a quote, separate those items from Mercury Nexus access so you can compare the actual services your brokerage needs.

Our Mercury Nexus guide covers the platform in more detail. Connective’s platform page describes the included tools.

Compliance and Business Support

Connective supports brokers through a dedicated Partnership Manager, onboarding specialists and technology training. Its published support material also describes compliance guidance and a learning program.

A Partnership Manager is the broker’s ongoing business contact. Onboarding and accreditations specialists help with the move into the network. Technology training helps the brokerage set up Mercury Nexus around its working practices.

Connective’s compliance services cover loan documents and sales processes, with support for privacy and marketing obligations. Mercury Nexus has compliance prompts and captures notes within the workflow. These tools support the broker’s records. The broker and licensee remain responsible for the file and their legal obligations.

Connective describes these channels in its onboarding information and business and compliance support overview.

Membership Costs and Leaving the Network

Connective publishes a fixed-fee Maximiser model and a Variable model with commission splits. Maximiser retains 100% of upfront and trail commission before the separate membership charges. Variable applies an upfront split based on monthly settlement volume and a published trail split.

The pricing structure includes a per-loan-writer broker fee. Credit representatives also pay a credit-representative fee and participate in Connective’s professional indemnity insurance policy. A brokerage using its own ACL has a different licensing cost arrangement.

The Connective commission-rate schedule covers the fixed and variable fee schedules and lender rates. Our aggregator-fee guide explains how to compare those cost models. Connective’s published pricing page separates the fee components.

Connective states that membership has no lock-in contract and brokers retain their trail book when leaving. Translate those published commitments into the terms of your actual agreement. Before signing, get written answers to these questions:

  • Which entity receives lender commissions and pays your brokerage, and how are adjustments or clawbacks handled?
  • What happens to trail administration, payment charges and lender appointments after you leave?
  • Which client records and commission history can you export, in what format and for how long after termination?
  • What notice and transition work apply to your live pipeline?

A sales calculation describes one setup. Your total depends on the selected model and licensing arrangement, plus the number of loan writers. Our guide to switching aggregators covers the move, while the AFG and Connective comparison helps assess their contract considerations.

Track My Trail With Connective Reports

Track My Trail accepts original monthly Connective .xls commission reports in Quick Analysis and Trail History. Both accepted Connective export variants work. You can use the aggregator’s own report without preparing a Generic CSV.

Upload two monthly reports to Quick Analysis and we show how your trail changed between the periods. You can see which clients were added or dropped off and which loans discharged or refinanced. Large repayments and drawdowns help explain changes in the loan book. Quick Analysis stores nothing.

With opt-in Trail History, you can store Connective reports for Historical Analysis. Missing Trail Analysis separates loans whose trail stopped and later returned from clients who discharged. You can raise a missing-payment query with Connective using the affected loan and periods.

The public upload handbook identifies the supported report family. Report layouts and exact portal export steps are available after you sign in. Mercury Nexus handles your client and deal workflow. We analyse the commission reports beside it.
