An Aussie broker is a mortgage broker trading under the Aussie Home Loans brand within Lendi Group. Brokers work as franchise store owners, mobile business owners or members of a store team.
For someone joining Aussie, the first decision is whether to run a retail business, build a mobile business or work in an existing store. Each path has different expenses and pay arrangements. The franchise agreement also determines what happens to your trail income when you leave.
Aussie as a Broker Network
Aussie mortgage brokers compare loans from Aussie’s lender panel and help borrowers arrange finance. An Aussie home loans broker and an Aussie home loan broker describe the same role.
John Symond founded Aussie in 1992. Commonwealth Bank later became an owner and acquired the remaining shares in 2017. In 2021, Aussie merged with Lendi to form Lendi Group. The group’s account of its two brands distinguishes Aussie’s broker network from Lendi’s online home-loan business.
Aussie supplies a brand and an operating model alongside lender access. An independent brokerage using an aggregator generally trades under its own brand. That distinction affects how you attract clients and how much control you have over the business.
Franchise Stores and Mobile Brokers
An Aussie franchisee owns a branded retail store and builds a local team. Store enquiries and referrals sit alongside company-generated appointments. Rent and team costs belong in the business forecast before you calculate the owner’s income.
Aussie mobile brokers are self-employed business owners who meet clients in person or by video without owning a retail storefront. Aussie’s recruitment material says mobile brokers can choose their location and working hours. Compare that flexibility with the written territory and lead-allocation terms in your offer.
A store broker works within a franchisee’s team. Aussie advertises both salaried and self-employed store roles, so joining a store does not always mean buying a franchise. Read about how mobile mortgage broking works day to day if you are deciding whether a storefront fits your working style.
Buying an Aussie franchise for sale means evaluating an existing business, including its lease, staff obligations and commission history. Opening a new store means funding the fit-out and building a client base. A transfer needs the franchisor’s consent under the applicable process.
For an existing business, have the sale contract identify which loan-book income rights transfer. Match the seller’s monthly trail statements to the sale schedule and the franchise agreement. A purchase price does not by itself establish which clients or future commissions you acquire.
Joining Aussie: Training and Licensing
Aussie accepts applicants without broking or finance experience. Its joining page describes support to obtain a Certificate IV, followed by a graduate program and ongoing training. The training timetable belongs in your onboarding offer alongside the qualification costs and supervised-work arrangements.
The Certificate IV in Finance and Mortgage Broking is the entry qualification. Brokers can then complete the separate Diploma of Finance and Mortgage Broking Management. The Mortgage and Finance Association of Australia qualification pathway requires members joining with a Certificate IV to complete the Diploma within 12 months.
Do not treat an Aussie mortgage broker course as automatically covering both qualifications. Obtain the course inclusions and Diploma pathway before budgeting your study time. Our guide to becoming a mortgage broker explains how qualifications fit with licensing and lender accreditation.
Aussie’s credit guide identifies Lendi Group Distribution Pty Ltd as the holder of Australian credit licence (ACL) 246786. It describes employees and credit representatives working within that licensed business. ASIC’s Information Sheet 126, Credit representatives, explains authorisation under a licensee. A credit representative provides authorised credit assistance under the licensee’s oversight instead of obtaining their own ACL.
Your appointment must establish the credit activities you can perform and the compliance procedures you must follow. Obtain written confirmation of professional indemnity cover and who pays for it. Settle membership requirements with the Mortgage and Finance Association of Australia (MFAA) or Finance Brokers Association of Australia (FBAA) as part of onboarding. Association membership and a qualification do not replace credit authorisation.
Lenders, Platform and Lead Flow
Aussie’s 2026 credit guide reports 28 lenders available to customers. The panel available through an independent aggregator depends on that aggregator and your individual lender accreditations. Compare the actual lenders you expect to use and their product coverage before treating a larger panel count as a better fit.
After the Lendi merger, Aussie moved its brokers to the group’s in-house platform. Aussie’s announcement about Aussie Activate Product Match says the whole network uses the platform from 2023. Clients also use the Aussie App to book appointments and stay connected with their broker.
A company-generated appointment gives you a chance to meet a borrower. Income follows only if the borrower proceeds and the loan settles. Lead-allocation rules therefore affect how much the advertised appointment flow contributes to your business.
For example, a store forecast built from appointments needs separate assumptions for attendance, applications and settlements. Deduct the contract’s fees from commission revenue before comparing that forecast with rent and staff costs. Ask how cancelled appointments and existing-client enquiries are allocated so you can use the right assumptions.
How Aussie Brokers Are Paid
Self-employed franchise and mobile brokers earn business income from commissions. An Aussie mortgage broker salary applies to an employed role, including salaried store brokers. Aussie also describes employed brokers receiving salaries and possible performance incentives in its credit guide.
The lender pays Aussie upfront commission after settlement and drawdown. Ongoing trail depends on the loan’s outstanding balance. Aussie then pays a portion to the broker under the agreed terms.
Your commission split and fee schedule determine the amount retained by the business. Compare upfront and trail separately, including any different treatment of company-generated business. Franchise revenue still has to cover operating costs before it becomes personal earnings.
A clawback arises when a lender recovers commission under its repayment rules. The lender’s schedule and your Aussie agreement determine what gets charged back to you. Keep provision for that exposure when planning cash flow.
Trail-book ownership is contractual. Compare your rights to ongoing payments with your rights to sell the business or transfer the book. Have your solicitor identify the clauses governing payments after termination, a sale or a breach. Continued trail cannot be assumed merely because you originally wrote the loan.
Questions to Settle Before You Sign
An Aussie broker review of the offer needs the actual documents behind the recruitment discussion. Obtain the following before committing funds:
- The franchise disclosure document, proposed franchise agreement and related agreements you must sign.
- Territory boundaries and the rules for company-generated appointments, repeat clients and referrals.
- The Aussie home loans franchise cost schedule, covering acquisition, set-up and fit-out, ongoing fees and required operating expenses.
- The commission schedules, clawback recovery rules and deductions from trail.
- Exit clauses covering notice, restraint, trail payments after exit and whether the book can be sold outside the network.
Aussie’s franchise recruitment page says acquisition costs, store establishment and ongoing expenses depend on location and scale. Use the Aussie franchise information to start the discussion, then base your forecast on the written offer.
Under the Franchising Code of Conduct, prospective franchisees generally receive the required documents at least 14 days before entering the agreement. The disclosure process also applies to transfers. This waiting period gives you time to obtain legal and accounting advice before signing.
A new franchise agreement generally has a 14-day cooling-off period after signing. Termination must be in writing, and the franchisor can retain reasonable expenses where the agreement permits them. Special rules cover transfers and leasing information. Limited opt-out provisions apply to qualifying repeat franchisees. The ACCC’s explanation of ending an agreement sets out those conditions.
Compare the offer with other mortgage broker franchise models. Our Mortgage Choice profile explains another network’s structure. Keep the comparison focused on what your signed agreements give you, especially ownership and exit rights.
